What is Our Heroes' Tree?

Our Heroes' Tree® is a national initiative that bridges military and civilian communities by honoring the service and sacrifice of U.S. service members and their families. Communities, classrooms, families and groups come together to discover and celebrate the names and stories of family members, friends, neighbors, and others who have served or are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. They create remembrance ornaments that are hung on a tree honoring the legacies of American service people.

The program started in 2005 at West Point and has grown every year since.

When Stephanie Pickup and Marlene Lee founded Our Heroes' Tree in 2005, they envisioned a "national forest" of trees that would stand any time of year to promote awareness and appreciation of the service and sacrifice of U.S. service members and their families.

In the 13 years since, these trees have stood in more than 30 states and in military bases in 10 countries, each a salute to former members of all branches of service, including Active Duty, National Guard, and Reserve.

In addition to offering ideas and resources for your own Our Heroes' Tree event, this initiative also donates a portion of its proceeds to organizations that support military family causes.

Our Heroes' Tree is inclusive of all branches of service, Active Duty, Guard, and Reserve, and all generations.

For families, groups, and organizations, Our Heroes' Tree benefits citizens of all ages.

Discover the branches of military service on your families' trees, and among friends, co-workers, and communities.

Promote appreciation for the service and sacrifice of U.S. service members and their families.
